What is an HND?

If you’re a student or school leaver looking for a qualification that offers both practical skills and global recognition, the Higher National Diploma (HND) might be your perfect match. Offered by many institutions in Sri Lanka as well as around the world, the HND is more a work focused qualification that blends theories with real world application. This is specially for those who want to enter the workforce faster or progress to a full degree.

What Does HND Stand For?

HND stands for Higher National Diploma, whio is a vocational qualification originally from the UK. It is equivalent to the first two years of a UK bachelor’s degree. It is usually awarded by recognized bodies like Pearson Edexcel or SQA – Scottish Qualifications Authority. Also there are other qualifications like, UK awards, OTHM and etc.

 

How Long Does an HND Take?

Full-time HND-2 years

In Sri Lanka, many private institutions like ESOFT, BCAS, ICBT, ANC and many offer UK affiliated HNDs that are accepted by international universities for direct entry into the final year of a bachelor’s degree. Or the students can persue their final year in Sri Lanka.
